Two IDEAS Lab Research Papers Earn Best Paper Awards
Two research papers from our research team received Best Paper Awards at the 2024 AIAA/IEEE Electrified Aircraft Technologies Symposium (EATS), recognizing contributions to electrified aircraft design and sustainable energy integration.
- “Modeling and Simulation of High-Temperature Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells in Parallel Hybrid Electric Turboprop Aircraft with Multi-Whale Optimization Algorithms,” led by PhD student Yi-Chih Wang, received the EATS Best Student Paper Award. The paper explores advanced modeling techniques for fuel cell systems in hybrid-electric aircraft.
- “System-Level Energy Pack Requirements for Sustainable Commercial Aviation,” awarded a Best Paper Award, examines energy integration strategies for batteries and hydrogen fuel cells. This collaborative effort involved Maxfield Arnson, Elias Waddington, Phillip J. Ansell, Matthew Clarke, Reynard de Vries, Francesco Salucci, Nirmit Prabhakar, Jonathan Gladin, Mingxuan Shi, Ed Lovelace, and Peter De Bock.
EATS 2024 was held in Las Vegas, NV, from July 29 to August 2, alongside the 2024 AIAA Aviation Forum.
